ABOUT BUKUKU PRESS

OUR STORY

Founded in 2017 by Muhammad Nazreen, Bukuku Press began with a simple observation: countless remarkable books about Southeast Asia—scholarly works, rare manuscripts, cultural histories—were disappearing from circulation, forgotten in estate sales and dusty corners of the world.

What started as a personal passion for collecting has grown into Malaysia's premier source for rare and out-of-print books on Southeast Asian history, culture, and Islamic scholarship.

OUR MISSION

We believe that the stories of our region deserve to be preserved, studied, and celebrated. Every book we curate tells a part of Southeast Asia's rich narrative—from colonial-era travelogues to groundbreaking academic works by local scholars like Syed Hussein Alatas.

Our mission is to:
• PRESERVE literary and academic heritage that might otherwise be lost
• CONNECT collectors, scholars, and curious readers with books they can't find anywhere else
• EDUCATE a new generation about Southeast Asian history through primary sources
• SUPPORT independent scholarship on the region

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

Authentic Expertise
Muhammad Nazreen personally sources and authenticates every book in our collection. With years of experience in rare books and a deep knowledge of Southeast Asian history, we ensure you're getting genuine, high-quality items.

Curated Selection
We don't stock everything—only books that matter. Whether it's a first edition of Anthony Burgess's Malayan Trilogy or an academic work on Nusantara Islam, each title is chosen for its historical significance, scholarly value, or collectible merit.

Condition Transparency
We describe every book honestly. Our detailed condition reports and multiple photographs ensure you know exactly what you're purchasing.
