In 1962, to mark the formation of Malaysia, the artist Hoessein Enas was commissioned by Shell to travel around the country and to produce a series of portraits to illustrate the people in this new emerging nation. All images, were then published in a limited edition book titled 'Malaysians'.
Tunku Abdul Rahman wrote the preface and described the portraits as a nation of wide and colorful variety, with people of many races, creeds and cultures.
