1904 novel by Sir Hugh Charles Clifford, a British colonial official, and was published by Oxford University Press in 1989 and other editions. The story is about a Malay prince sent to England for his education who becomes culturally conflicted upon his return, a theme explored in literary analysis as a form of "racial melancholia.
