About the author
George Baird studied at the University of Toronto and University College London before teaching architectural theory and design at the Royal College of Art and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Returning to Toronto in 1967, he founded his own practice and joined the faculty at the University of Toronto, later holding the G Ware Travelstead Professorship at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. From 2005 to 2009, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. He is the author or editor of several books, including Meaning in Architecture (with Charles Jencks), Alvar Aalto, and The Space of Appearance.
