Father Mole-Cricket, the laziest man in the world, spends his time sleeping when he can, and trying to dodge work when he is awake. It is by accident of course that he is appointed Royal astrologer to that fierce tyrant, the Emperor Indera Maya.

This means work! The stratagems to which the new astrologer is put to avoid it often bring him near disaster, for Indera Maya is a great remover of heads! But slow, sleepy, and old Father Mole-Cricket always manages to come out all right in the end!
