Raffles Of Singapore (1948)

Miss Han's Raflles of Singapore, which first appeared in 1946. It was offered at that time as an informal biography designed to appeal to the ordinary reader, in contrast to the pedantic type of historical eulogy, typified by Demtrius C. Boulger's The Life of Sir Stamford Raffles, a voluminous work of hagiography, which was published in 1897 at the zenith of imperialis fervour in England. In addition to specialised studies of Raffles activities in Java and Sumatra. two further major biographies have appeared since Miss Hahn's work was first published.
