Al-Quds is just as important due to its initial status as the Qiblah or direction of prayer until this was changed to Makkah. Istanbul, the capital of one of the world’s greatest empires, served as the nerve centre for the custodianship of the ‘Three Harams’ of Makkah, Madinah and Al-Quds.
