There has been a great deal more written on Sabah than most people are aware of. But some of the more interesting writings on Sabah have been by non-scholars.  This monograph, therefore, attempts to provide eye-witness descriptions of Sabah. There are properly speaking, few historical essays. There are extracts from the writings of those who saw Sabah at particular points in time, beginning from the late 19th century until the period immediately after World War II; there are also essays on inter alia the Japanese Occupation, musical instruments, minority indigenous groups and the growth of schools.
